Just a quick thank you to everyone who attended the dinner last night. Thank you to everyone involved for organizing such a fun night. Also thank you to Harry Barlow for his time as Fleet Captain.
CLAM DIGGER TROPHY
Fleet Captain’s recognition of an unfortunate and possible amusing incident on the water usually the result of cutting corners and causing damage. Awarded to Joel Malbeuf: Joel wish to be moored on a ball this season. Apparently his boat “Sweet Escape” decided to make it’s escape and make a new home on Sheiks island. She was found sunning herself on the north west shore. After some ado she was convinced to come back to the water and stay on her mooring ball.
UPSIDE DOWN TROPHY
Award at the sole discretion of the Fleet Captain to the club member in recognition of an odd experience on the water, usually a memorable nautical blunder, faux pas, unseamanship act, capsize etc. Awarded to Doug Mackenzie: Any time you what to find the bottom, just ask Doug and Ralph. They were curious about the water depth in the muddy bottom shoal off Croil Island on a spring day and ventured in from the deep to get the exact depth. After some swimming and benching they finally managed to get Cloud Nine afloat again. With Ralph at the helm and Doug in the water Ralph decided to go back and pick up Doug of coarse putting poor Cloud Nine back in the mud again. That confirmed the depth.
RUSTY NAIL
Awarded by the Fleet Captain to commemorate and embarrassing sailing moment or incident. Awarded to Carl Atkinson: It was the end of the season and Carl being a young enthusiastic sailor had decided it was time to take his mast down. While waiting for the mast crane he loosened off his mast stays only thing was he also disconnected the fore stay a too little early and (oops) found his mast laying on his deck. Luckily, no one was hurt, and only his stern rail was reshaped. Nothing like first had experience in the fastest way to take a mast down.
MOST IMPROVED SAILOR(S) OF THE YEAR
Awarded to SYC member showing significant increase in nautical competency, determination and/or race results. Awarded to Paul and Manon Rodrigue: After racing with Clare for two seasons than Paul and Manon decided to take the sheets by the blocks and race their Tanzer 26, Sealestail. This is not the last we will see of Paul and Manon and will be very competitive after taking Clare’s sail client this fall.
