Sunday, Sep 27 – Race 4
Six boats ventured out on Sunday, Sep 27 with winds at 15 knots gusting to 25. A gorgeous fall day. Perfect conditions for a race!
Aragorn (Skipper John Becker and crew Francis Clark), Beethoven (Skipper Cory Petrie and crew Scott Smith & Jeff Ridal) and Sealestial (Skipper Paul Rodrigue and crew Manon Rodrigue, Kate Miller & Ann Marie Blinkhorn), R&R (Skipper Robert Zwanenburg and crew Charles Deschamps) were joined by Jenna’s Journey (Skipper Mike Guay) and Pog Moith (Skipper Ellery Lafave).
The race committee was Nick Cox, Sylvie Lebel & Judy Pike.
The winds were strong for the entire race. As usual the first marker was tricky to get around with Aragorn touching it. The marker needed to be rounded on the return as well and this time Sealestial touched it. Both needed to go around again.
Beethoven was across the start line first but somehow lost steam along the way. Sealestial was first through the red and green markers and around Sheek Island. Aragorn and R&R were not far behind. As we entered the bay it was clear that the fight to the finish line was between these two. A picture perfect finish (sorry…no picture) and R&R was across the line first!
You can see the official race results on the SYC website under document archives – races. As the Fleet Captain notes – Results so far set up a very interesting race on October 4th.
Note from the Race Committee – Much better start with 3 crossing line within 10 seconds. Races are more challenging in a decent wind. In my opinion most were over canvassed, too much heeling and some sloppy tacks as it was difficult to pull in the genoa. A 90 minute race with 5 of the 6 all physically finishing within 5 minutes of each other.
The 5th race is next Sunday, Oct 4. More boats and crew are always welcome! Please see Paul before 930am. Skippers meeting is at 930am and the race starts at 1030am.
