Crane-out is always a sad day at the Stormont Yacht Club (SYC) as it officially ends the sailing season. But the sun gods were watching over SYC Friday, Oct 14! It was an absolutely gorgeous day!
Two large cranes arrived the day before so our crews quickly assembled in the morning, got to work and the first boats were out of the water by 8:30am. The last boat would come out at exactly 4pm. The total was 83 boats and a tired but happy crew!
Many thanks to Joy, Jillian and their crew for treating us to a great lunch. Lots of folks brought food so ‘merci’ to everyone!
Lucky for us there was enough leftovers for lunch the next day. The docks came out and a major clean-up was done of the grounds, Fort Stormont and the Barnhart. There was even a bonfire going all day.
It was great teamwork for everyone that was there Friday and Saturday.
The next step is to gather for the Past Commodores Dinner on November 5. The dinner has not been held since 2019 due to the pandemic. Everyone is looking forward to this special evening. Hope to see you there!
From the SYC HarbourMaster, Dan Daigle, “it made a big difference to have the cranes delivered the night before. It made for a quick start. Although we did have some issues in the morning everyone came together and with some shuffling of teams we were able to smooth the operations. Thank you to everyone for their attendance, patience and teamwork”.
From the SYC Commodore, Natalie Bray, “everyone came together as the SYC community and it was super to see. A big thank you to everyone”.
